Palccoyo is one of the Rainbow Mountains of Cusco. It’s located in the district of Checacupe, in the province of Canchis. It has an elevation of 4900 m.a.s.l. which is slightly lower than Vinicunca, which has an altitude of 5200 m.a.s.l. Originally, Palccoyo was only visited as part of the Ausangate Trek. However, it’s completely possible to explore Palccoyo in just one day.

Itinerary

Full DayPalccoyo Rainbow Mountain Trek

We’ll pick you up from your hotel in Cusco at 7:00 am. Then we’ll drive to Checacupe town, where we’ll have breakfast. Then we’ll go to the trail head to Palccoyo. The route to Palccoyo is quite short. It just takes 45 minutes to complete. A section of the trail goes through the “stone forest”, a curious geological formation.

Once on the summit of Palccoyo you’ll be able to see the surrounding valleys and the Ausangate mountain. You’ll have free time to take photos and appreciate the astonishing scenery. Next, we’ll return to Checacupe, where we’ll stop to have lunch. Then, we’ll drive back to Cusco city.
