Sacred Valley Tour from Cusco

Chinchero

We’ll pick you up from your hotel at 8:30 am. Then we’ll drive to Chinchero town. Chinchero was a royal palace built by the Inca ruler Tupac Inca Yupanqui. During the Spanish conquest, Chinchero was arsoned by Manco Inca in order to delay the pursuing Spanish army. In the colonial period, viceroy Toledo ordered the construction of the church of Chinchero. Nowadays Chinchero is a small rural community which is famous for its complex textile designs.

Ollantaytambo

Our next stop will be the archaeological site and town of Ollantaytambo. Originally, Ollantaytambo was a religious center built by the Inca ruler Pachacutec. During the Spanish conquest, Manco Inca used Ollantaytambo as a fortress, due to the steep terrain and strategic location of the site. Ollantaytambo features numerous terraces known as “andenes”. These terraces were built to support the weight the entire archaeological complex.

Pisac

After exploring Ollantaytambo, we’ll visit the archaeological complex of Pisac. Pisac was built by the Inca ruler Pachacutec during the XV century. It comprises numerous buildings, some of which have been identified as residences, public squares, observatories and temples. Pisac displays the classic architectural Inca style, which consists of carefully worked stones placed together to form huge walls.

After exploring Pisac and the nearby town, we’ll drive back to Cusco.

I recently took a Sacred Valley tour with my family and it was a great experience! We visited a variety of sites, including the ruins of Ollantaytambo and the small town of Pisac. All in all, it was a great way to explore this amazing part of Peru! Highly recommended!
