Event though you cannot directly visit Machu Picchu in a motorcycle, you can still explore the majestic Sacred Valley. Exploring the Sacred Valley of the Incas on motorcycle is an adventure that should not be missed. Located between Cusco and Machu Picchu, the Sacred Valley offers stunning landscapes, ancient Inca ruins, and a unique cultural experience.

A motorcycle tour of this area can provide you with a thrilling ride while enjoying the best of Cusco. After getting to Aguas Calientes, you can take a train and explore the awe inspiring Machu Picchu citadel.

Exploring the Sacred Valley on motorbikes

The journey begins in Cusco where you will pick up your bikes and set off for the Sacred Valley. As you make your way down from the highlands, you’ll be greeted by rolling hillsides filled with terraced fields of corn and quinoa. These fields are evidence of centuries-old agricultural practices still being used today by local farmers. The road winds its way through lush green valleys dotted with small villages. Each village provide unique glimpses into traditional Peruvian life. 

As the day progresses, you’ll come across various Inca ruins including Pisac. Pisac is an impressive citadel located high above the valley floor, surrounded by dramatic mountain peaks. On Pisac, visitors can explore its archaeological sites including temples dedicated to the Inca gods, as well as several burial sites. Historians estimate that Pisac may have been inhabited since pre-Inca times, nearly 2,000 years ago!

From Pisac it’s just another short ride until arriving at Ollantaytambo. Ollantaytambo is an important town of the Sacred Valley. It was once used as a military stronghold against Spanish conquistadors in the XVI century. There visitors can marvel at its extensive stone structures before taking a train to Aguas Calientes.

Traveling from the Sacred Valley to Machu Picchu

Machu Picchu can only be reached by foot or by train. It is not possible to directly go to Machu Picchu on a motorcycle because there are no roads leading up to the site. The terrain surrounding Machu Picchu is steep and rugged with steep inclines, making it impossible for a motorbike to traverse. 

The first leg of your journey to Machu Picchu will be aboard a train. This locomotive takes you through picturesque landscapes, over soaring peaks and past cascading waterfalls. You won’t want to miss out on taking photos along this portion of your trip! As you travel closer to Machu Picchu, keep an eye out for nearby mountain streams and native birds soaring overhead.

Once at Aguas Calientes station (the gateway town for visitors entering Machu Picchu), it’s time to transfer onto a local bus. The bus trip winds its way up into the mountains towards your final destination: the legendary citadel of Machu Picchu. Enjoy spectacular views of the surrounding valleys and terraced hillsides, before arriving at this incredible complex built by the Incas centuries ago. 

Once at Machu Picchu, you can explore the winding pathways of the citadel. Machu Picchu is famous for its impresive ruins of temples and royal tombs. Also, some structures display mysterious stone carvings depicting Andean gods. If you feel tired during you exploration, you can simply stand in awe while admiring the breathtaking views across verdant canyons below.

Machu Picchu is surrounded by lush rainforest vegetation that gives off a subtle fragrance. Don’t forget to snap some photos too – they make great souvenirs! 

After exploring this wonderous site until sunset, it’s time to head back down into Aguas Calientes. Once there, you will board another train which will bring you safely back home after sundown.
